“nAI-sayers” - how apt 👍🏼 I’ve talked with artists whose businesses have basically dried up in the past 2 years or so, due to people using “AI art” they generate themselves, instead of hiring a pro. I’ve also talked with a few graphic designers who haven’t felt an impact yet. I’m curious, Lucy, what is your experience so far?
As far as I can tell, I haven’t been impacted much… yet. I have been more impacted by the internet as a whole for the last 20 years lessening the value of illustrators. On the motion graphics side, ai can produce shitty subtitles for tiktoks, but beyond that, we humans are still needed. For now.
I think you sell yourself short by denying that you are an artist. You generate written and graphic content from the depths of your own mind. We non-creative types are indebted to people like you! As for AI, it's pure robbery and governments need to figure out a way to legislate it sooner rather than later to protect others' work.
For me, it’s a professional designation. It depends on what day of the week, really, as to how I think of myself, but mostly I am an illustrator, always was, always will be, even if I’m illustrating my own ideas and not other people’s stuff.
I noticed the incipient trend when people expected adulation when they used some crap robo-tool to colorise a classic monochrome photo. Oooooooh! They do not welcome suggestions to stop ruining images.
“animador in Portuguese also means someone who runs children’s parties” - I’m going to call myself animador now when people ask me what I do for a living. Then I will run children’s parties for people of any age, because we need it.
I know it’s NOT art, although some people do make art with it. I’m a fan of Neptunian Glitterball on IG and have actually bought a print of one of their works. By the way, if you do ever offer up any of your originals for purchase please do let me know.

As one of the people who worked on Open AI said, it’s stealing other people’s work. He resigned from his AI work blew the whistle on AI.
